ADModify is an Active Directory Tool used for making bulk changes to Active Directory Attributes. For example you need to change the logon script for a large list of users. With ADModify you can make this change for everybody at one time. This is much faster than opening each user account and changing the value one at a time. ADmodify contains the ability to change any attribute using its name value. All changes are stored in an XML log file and gives the administrator the option to undo changes.
Microsoft continues to add more bulk features to Active Directory User and Computers but not on the same level as ADModify. Features unbeaten by Active Directory Users and Computer MMC Snap-in:
• Bulk modification of any Active Directory® directory service attribute from any Active Directory partition with almost limitless flexibility
• Administrators are no longer restricted by the attributes hard coded into ADModify, because it contains the ability to modify any attribute using its name and value
• ADModify is not restricted to literal values
• ADModify can dynamically build values based on current Active Directory attributes
• Logging in XML
• Undo
There is also a command line version of ADModify, it offers the same functionality as the GUI version.
There is a few websites that provide a good tutorial on making changes to Active Directory with ADModify. Making bulk changes to Active Directory users with ADModify and for administrators wanting to make changes to Exchange Specific attributes check out this tutorial called Using ADModify to Change Exchange Specific AD User Attributes in Bulk
