In July, we presented a roadmap for Power BI to help organizations bring together modern and traditional BI on one company platform, and empower business analysts by expanding self-service data preparation for big data. Since then, we have sent a number of capabilities available on this roadmap.
Premium multi-geo enables customers to meet data residency requirements, aggregation allows analysis of data on petabyte datasets with trillions of rows of data, and new Power BI Home page comments and the dashboard makes it easy for you to get the most important content and collaborate throughout the company.

Data flow expands the self-service data preparation at Power BI Reporting Tool
Power BI includes powerful self-service data preparation capabilities in Power BI Desktop through known Power Query-based experiences used by millions of users worldwide. We are pleased to announce a public preview of the data flow at Power BI, taking self-service data preparation to the next level.
Power BI Reporting Tool Dataflows
Dataflows of Power BI Reporting Tool allow business analysts to create data preparation logic that can be reused in several Power BI reports and dashboards.
Data flow can be linked together to create sophisticated data transformation channels that allow business analysts to build on each other’s work. The new calculation engine automatically tracks dependencies and recalculates data when new data is digested.
Data streams can be configured to store data in Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 customer instances, encouraging collaboration across roles. Business analysts can operate smoothly on data stored in Azure Data Lake Storage, utilizing scale, performance and security. Meanwhile, data engineers and data scientists can expand their insights with advanced analysis and AI from complementary Azure Data Services such as Azure Machine Learning, Azure
Datagram, and Azure SQL Data Warehouse.
Data flow supports Microsoft’s General Data Model, which gives organizations the ability to utilize standard and expandable data schema collections (entities, attributes, and relationships)
Columbia Sportswear uses Power BI to empower a broad group of employees to find themselves, share and monitor insights in a variety of data sources in the cloud and on the spot. Data flow opens new possibilities for analysts to use large datasets.
