ADSI Edit Download (adsiedit.msc) is valid for: Windows SBS 2008, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 SP1, Windows Server 2003 SP2, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows Server 2012.
Active Directory Editor Interface (ADSI Edit) is a Light Access editor (LDAP) editor that you can use to manage objects and attributes in Active Directory. ADSI Edit (adsiedit.msc) provides a view of each object and attribute in the Active Directory forest.
You can use ADSI Edit to request, view and edit attributes that are not displayed by other snap-ins in the Active Directory Microsoft Management Console (MMC): Active Directory Users and Computers, Active Directory Domains and Services, Active Directory Domains and Trusts.

To install ADSI Edit on a computer running Windows Server® 2003 or Windows® XP, install Windows Server 2003 Support Tools from a Windows Server 2003 product CD-ROM or from the Microsoft Download Center. For more information about how to install Windows Support Tools from the product CD, see Install Windows Support Tools.
On a server that is running Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2, ADSI Edit is installed when you install the Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) role to create a server controller. You can also install Windows Server 2008 Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT) on a domain member server or a stand-alone server. To install ADSI Edit on a computer running Windows Vista® Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows 7, RSAT must be installed. For more information and to download RSAT, see article 941314 in the Microsoft Knowledge Base article.
Adsiedit.msc: is GUI tool is the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in which functions as a low-level Active Directory editor. Network administrators can use Active Directory Interfaces (ADSI) for general administrative tasks, such as adding, deleting, and moving objects using Directory Services. The attributes of each object that is displayed or deleted can be changed.

Active Directory provides directory services on the Windows Server 2003 operating system. There are many tools that allow viewing and editing Active Directory and this tool uses the LDAP or ADSI API to access Active Directory.
